General Info
Developed by Data East for Ocean, the Amiga game was released in 1989.
Review Graphics: The Amiga is similar in style to the PC and Atari ST versions, but it has vastly superior racing graphics compared to the PC, and much better sound compared to the Atari ST. The only flaw is that the funny "intro" screens between the levels that exist in the PC and ST versions are absent here.
Sound: The sound is fun. The music has absolutely NOTHING to do with the film's fabulous score, it's the usual cheesy, forgettable midis of most late 80s/ early 90s games, but it's fun to listen to while playing.
Gameplay: There are three types of levels. In the platform levels, Batman can only walk left or right and shoot the enemies, or use the batrope vertical or diagonal with the arrow keys (O,P for left right and Q, A for up down). It takes a lot of practice for someone used playing games with a joypad.
The racing levels are two. The first is the batmobile. With the ''Up'' button the vehicle accelerates, and the ''Down'' arrow is the brake. Left and right are used to drive the vehicle, and the fire button to shoot a hook to make difficult turns, when necessary. In the batwing level, Up and Down control the height in which the aircratf flies, and the speed is controlled by pressing Up or Down alongside the fire button. The object here is to collect as many baloons as possible, until the number decreases to zero, and you complete the level. The best thing is to keep the Batwing flying at a relatively high speed, but still being able to control it successfully.
The third level is a puzzle game, similar to ''Mastermind''. It's just a distraction from the action, but it can be very tough.
Overall: All in all, this game is a classic. It's terribly dated and even unplayable now (it's very difficult by todays, or even 16-bit console standards), but it's a worthy item for collection because by the standards of the era it came out it was an immense success. Worth a download to see it. Rated: 4/5.
