Hello there!
I just found this documentary called BATMAN- The Making of a Hero from 1989 on YouTube.
It's a Mindseye Films Production and was apparently aired in the U.K.

Enjoy!

Part 3:

Don't read this if you haven't watched it, and if you haven't watched it yet, go watch it now!
I loved this documentary! I found it while searching for Batman commercials on YouTube to post in this forum. Never saw it before.
As someone who grew up with Batman and is interested in filmmaking and has Tim Burton as a  filmmaker role-model I loved every minute of this. It sent shivers down my spine.
It was very exciting to watch and informative at the same time.
There were so many things in this documentary which I have never seen before.

I really hope that when WB releases BATMAN on Blu-Ray/ HD DVD they will acquire the rights to this documentary.

I wouldn't say more overall but def alot more of behind the scenes and rare footage. Some of the stuff on the SE dvd came from this. Its ashame the SE dvd didn't include this as a whole like they did with "The Cat, The Bat & The Penguin" on the Returns SE or "Why is Batman Forever?" on the Forever SE dvd. I would have much rather had this instead of the "History of Batman" on the 89 SE dvd. They talked too much about pre 1989 and comic related stuff on the 89 SE dvd, and thats fine but it just felt like that was more of their focus and they forgot that the point of the SE dvd was for the 89 movie. Its a hard crowd to please i know

Thats not the Hero Documentary dvd. This is just a compilation of tv spots, interviews, trailers etc. I think I may have that dvd too but since its a bootleg its hard to tell with the different artwork and description. I'm really curious about it now that i think about it because I don't think the dvd I have has anything from Returns, its all 89.

All of that stuff that is posted on Youtube are from the DVD's that I circulated a few years back..the "Making of a hero" Documentary is something that I acquired from a collector in the UK in the late 90's...as far as I know the only other person who had their own copy was PJ Wares...this was the ad I made for it...

and the other stuff with the TV spots and are interview stuff was recorded by me back in the summer of 89..I video taped anything I could about the movie...then many years later I put it all on a DVD as the Video tapes were very worn..here's the ad I made for that one...

I had originally intended to sort of keep them exclusive to the Bat-forums, but so many people were interested in copies that I just decided to make them available to everyone...I also had the making of Batman Returns as well( the Bat, The Cat & The Penguin) but that was released on the SE DVD so I just stopped making them...there is still a bunch of stuff I remember seeing back in 89-90 that aired on TV that I unfortunately never got a chance to tape...there was an Arsinio Hall appearance that Michael Keaton did were Arsinio put on the Batman cowl..since he was on so late I never got a chance to see it but heard all about it the next day...there was also a really cool behind the scenes featurette on HBO that I never got a chance to tape either..it was really cool because they showed the stunt man( David Lea?) putting on the costume and also showed some quick takes with Keaton's "Let's get nuts" rant

Reevz, are you sure the one in that link is from yours? It says it has Returns material and the 2 from you are all 89 stuff.

not sure about the dvd in the link....but I'm willing to bet that it's both of DVD footage with the Bat, The Cat and the Penguin added as the "returns" footage

The sad thing is, Batman: The making of a hero was intended to be on the release of the SE DVD as it was submitted to the BBFC for certification http://www.bbfc.org.uk/website/Classified.nsf/0/754C1B48DE356E6D8025705400378D80?OpenDocument

Who knows why it was dropped at the last minute.

Probably for the same reason U2's cool "Hold Me, Kiss Me, Thrill Me, Kill Me" Music Video wasn't on the Batman Forever DVD, copyright costs. However, this is just a random guess.
Hopefully the WB will include some more goodies for eventual High-Def releases.
